BAJURA, NOVEMBER 29

Dr Jasmita Balampaki working in District Hospital, Bajura, has been saving the lives of pregnant women and new mothers in the district.

Dr Jasmita has been offering emergency delivery service to women in the hospital for the last eight months. Dr Jasmita has carried out 28 surgeries successfully in the hospital.

NIS-Nick Simons Institute had sent Dr Jasmita to the district hospital in coordination with the health ministry. The women felt relieved when Dr Jasmita reached the hospital. The women were hesitant to visit male doctors and could not talk about their health issues openly.

Staff nurse at the hospital Bimala Oli said that the women openly shared their problems in front of the female doctor.

Not only emergency service, but also the OPD service at the district hospital has become more effective with the arrival of Dr Jasmita. The hospital administration said women who had been suffering from chronic diseases for many years, have also started coming to the hospital for treatment. Dr Jasmita has also been offering counselling service to patients with mental problems in the hospital. She said that she had served in Jagannath and Gaumul rural municipalities before she reached the hospital.

She has been serving people in remote areas for the last two years.

Dr Jasmita said that she had come to the remote area to serve people rather than make money. "I had studied about the problems and suffering of people in remote areas in books earlier," she said. Dr Jasmita said that she had the aim of reaching the far-flung areas to provide health facilities to the poor.

"Keeping this in mind, I first chose Bajura to serve the people," she added.
