KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 15

Dr Taranath Sharma, noted Nepali writer, essayist, and literary critic, passed away today. He was 87.

Sharma well-known through his pen name Tana Sharma, was born in Illam on June 23, 1934. He had published more than 112 works.

Sharma has won several honors including the Madan Puruskar for his travelogue -- Belaet Tira Baralida, and the Saajha Award for Sama Ra Samaka Kriti.

It has been learned that his last rites will be performed today in the afternoon.

He is survived by his wife and two sons.
