Drive to end violence against women

A sixteen-day awareness campaign to end violence against women kicked off in Rautahat yesterday.

The campaign begins each year on November 25, International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women and ends on December 10, International Human Rights Day across the globe to eliminate all kinds of violence against women and build peaceful and prosperous society.

Various Gaur-based social organisations working in the field of women and children’s rights initiated the campaign.

A rally was organised by Plan International Nepal, Women Security Pressure Group, District Bar Association, RDC Nepal, Women Awareness Centre, Women and Children Service Centre, Garuda, Janasewa Nepal, and District Children Network, among other organisations, in coordination with Women and Children Office, Rautahat.

Meanwhile, Chief District Officer Uddhav Bahadur Thapa underscored the need to educate people to minimise violence against women in the name of dowry, on the charge of practicing witchcraft and other domestic violence. He opined such incidents of violence could come down only if legal action was taken against persons involved in such acts.
