Drug-peddling cop, wife held

Drugs and ammunition have been seized from policeman Man Bahadur Kaucha’s rented room at Butwal 12, Kalikanagar. Kaucha is posted at the Western Regional Police Training Centre, Butwal. The local Kalika Youth Club members and cadres of the Civil Campaign for Constituent Assembly, Rupandehi, seized the materials today. Kaucha has been arrested.

Kaucha’s wife Devi Kaucha, Abinash Thapa of Chauraha on Butwal highway, Binod Chhetri and Jivan Thapa have also been arrested for their involvement in drug peddling. They were later presented before the public with the seized materials.

Campaign representative Ramesh Aryal said Rs 50,000 in cash, 25 rounds of ammunition, 10 police uniforms and one gram of brown sugar were seized from Kaucha’s room.

“Abinash and Jivan Thapa were in a drugged state at Chauraha on the highway. We caught them and they revealed during interrogation that Kaucha had supplied them the drugs,” Aryal said.

Jivan was made to contact Kaucha on the latter’s mobile 9847025045 and pose as a customer. Kaucha replied, saying he could go and buy the drugs from Devi. The club members and campaigners then raided Kaucha’s room, Aryal added. Talking to this daily over the telephone, Kaucha confessed that he started peddling drugs to pay back a loan he had taken.
