Druggists warn of acute shortage of life-saving medicines, call to end border obstructions
KATHMANDU: Drug sellers of the nation have warned that the nation would face an acute shortage of live-saving drugs within few days if the ongoing border obstructions continued.
Issuing an appeal today, the Nepal Chemists and Druggists Association urged the government and protesting parties to take initiatives to resume supplies across the Indo-Nepal border points.
As the nation is reeling under acute shortage of essential commodities due to the protracted Madhes agitation for more than the months and the unofficial blockade at the border points for last 45 days, the store of life saving drugs is significantly depleting, it informed.
The World Health Organisation has categorized medicines as the most essential item for human beings, the NCDA said, adding no one can play with the life of injured and taken ill.
The NCDA further blamed the government for not doing enough to ease the current medicine crisis.
It has also appealed to the government to manage fuel for the pharmacists as they were not able to deliver the stored medicines to the medicine shops.
