Driving under the influence of alcohol (Ma.Pa.Se) caused 225 vehicle accidents across Nepal in the month of Mangsir (FY 2082/83), resulting in six deaths and 295 injuries, according to data released by Nepal Police.

The statistics show that the Kathmandu Valley recorded the highest number of alcohol-related accidents, with 48 incidents, leading to one death and 55 injuries during the review period.

Among the provinces, Lumbini Province reported the highest number of deaths and injuries, with three dead and 107 people injured in 80 DUI-related accidents, while Koshi Province recorded 43 accidents, resulting in 57 injuries. Madhesh Province followed with 28 accidents and 39 injuries.

In Bagmati Province (outside the Valley), police recorded 10 accidents, causing 14 injuries, while Gandaki Province saw three alcohol-related accidents that resulted in two deaths.

Similarly, Karnali Province reported seven accidents with 10 injuries, and Sudurpaschim Province recorded six accidents, also injuring 10 people.

Overall, Nepal Police data indicate that alcohol consumption while driving continues to pose a serious road safety risk nationwide, contributing to fatalities and hundreds of injuries within a single month.
