Among those who died, Shanti Devi was pregnant. The three died as they could not get medical treatment on time, Dev said.

The condition of ten, including Puja Kumari, Ash Kumari, Bibek, Sarita, Dhiren, Samjhana Kumari, Dambar Kumari, Sophiya and Gauri Kumari, is critical, Dev said. “Some patients came to our contact three days ago; however, the others did not come in contact. As they did not inform about the disease, it took such form,” Dev said, adding: “We will attempt to distribute medicine and provide additional treatment.

Every house in Musahartole is suffering from dysentery. Talking to the this daily, Bechani Rishi Dev, 50, said: “We performed religious pooja with the help of shamans thinking ghosts troubled the patients, but later we knew that they were suffering from dysentery.”

Locals said that the primary health post was closed most of the time. “We informed the health centre repeatedly; however, nobody came,” Gauri Rishi Dev said. She said doctor Dev arrived in the village today. However, Dev denied the charges.
