RAJBIRAJ: The Women and Children Service Centre of police and INSEC have stopped an early marriage involving a 15-year-old girl.

The Saptari District Police Office also detained the girls's mother after getting information about the nuptial knot being fixed on December 29, from Deuri Bharuwa-5 in the district.

DSP Dan Bahadur Karki said the girl's family cancelled the function after providing them a counselling regarding effects and legal provisions about the child marriage.

Meanwhile, police have initiated procedures to arrest the potential bridegroom.

It has been learnt that the girl's father is currently abroad for employment.
