Earthquake in Bajhang of far-western Nepal

KATHMANDU: A light earthquake was recorded in Bajhang district of far-western Nepal on Monday evening.

The National Seismological Centre said the 8:59 pm earthquake was of local magnitude 4.1.

Its epicentre lies in the Kanda region, north of the district headquarters Chainpur.

The tremors were reportedly felt in neighouring Bajura district also.

Its epicentre lies beyond the Gorkha-Dolakha fault segment of Main Himalayan Thrust fault and is acknowledged as an individual earthquake, not an aftershock of the April 25, 2015 earthquake.

The NSC had recorded an aftershock in Sindhupalchok on the eve of the second anniversary of the devastating earthquake that killed thousands.
