Biratnagar, March 6:

Preparations for providing security for the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections have been completed in all the 16 districts of the eastern development region.

The regional security committee under the special security project programme of the government completed the task recently. Altogether 32,000 personnel of armed and

civil police have been deployed, acting administrator of the eastern region, Narendra Dahal said. Security has been further strengthened in Siraha and Saptari districts by enlisting the districts as ‘sensitive’, Dahal said.

There are 56 constituencies and 4,879 booths and temporary booths in eastern region, the Eastern Regional Election Office Biratnagar said. Prisoners, army, police and government employees will cast votes in temporary booths. 23,000 civil police including the temporary police and 6,350 armed policemen will be deployed, the region security committee said.

Three to seven policemen will be deployed in each booth, DIGP of eastern regional police, Thakur Pratap Shah said, adding that additional policemen will also be deployed from district, zone and region if there is a need. The civil police will guard the booth while the armed police will be deployed for the security outside the booth, Shah said.

“We have planned to send 260 policemen to Bhojpur, Okhaldhunga, Taplejung and Khotang districts from helicopter,” DIGP of armed police force Krishna Tamang said. Base camps have been established in district headquarters and constituencies for the security in connection to the polls, the APF Barahabarahi Brigade at Pakali in Sunsari said. Different security provision has been made for hilly and Tarai regions, Tamang said.

95 policemen will be deployed for district election base camp in Tarai district while the number will be 60 in hilly district. Similarly, 65 policemen will be deployed in each constituency in Tarai district and the number will be 50 in hilly district. Provision of deploying 90 policemen have been made for Siraha and Saptari district each.

The number of voters in eastern region is 42,13562. There is highest number voters -6,48894 in Morang district and the lowest numbers of voters-84182 in Solukhumbu district.
