EC concerned about rise in violence prior to polls
KATHMANDU: With rise in attacks on candidates prior to the House of Representatives and State Assemblies elections across the nation, Election Commission has urged the government to beefed-up security in the country.
It has also stressed on the need of creating conducive environment for the voters to cast their votes in a fair, free and fearless manner to exercise their right to vote guaranteed by the constitution of Nepal.
To address the security concern, Election Commission has called a security meeting to review the security arrangement prior to the elections.
The meeting of heads of all security agencies- Nepal Police, Nepali Army, Armed Police Force and National Investigation Department including secretaries of Home Ministry and Defence Ministry at the Election Commission Office in Kathmandu.
Recently, Udayapur-2 Nepali Congress candidate for the House of Representatives and District Student Union leader and two other were ambushed in the district, seriously injuring NC leader and others.
The second phase of House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly elections is slated on December 7 in 45 districts across the nation.
