KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 20
The Election Commission (EC) is set to utilise the popular social media platform TikTok for election publicity.
In view of the upcoming March 5 elections to the House of Representatives (HoR), the EC has launched a campaign inviting the public to create TikTok video messages.
According to the Commission, a TikTok video message creation competition is being organised to disseminate election-related information and enhance voter outreach. The initiative aims to promote election publicity and voter education.
Participants are required to produce a one-minute TikTok video focusing on topics such as the election code of conduct and voter education, and share it through their respective social media accounts. The video must also be submitted to the EC via email by March 1.
The Commission will award the video that garners the highest number of views among all valid submissions. The first prize carries a cash award of Rs 50,000, the second Rs 30,000, and the third Rs 20,000, along with certificates.
The videos must be prepared in the context of the House of Representatives election, 2026. They should be interactive and message-oriented, with priority given to original content, audio, and performance, the EC stated.
The content should provide general information about the election, its necessity and significance, the correct method of marking the ballot, compliance with the election code of conduct, and details regarding voters' rights and responsibilities.
The best video will be selected by a panel of independent experts in coordination with the Commission, according to the notice.
