EC proposes election schedule

Kathmandu, July 13:

The Election Commission (EC) has proposed electoral programme from coming September 24 for the Constituent Assembly (CA) election to be held on November 22. The concept presented with the voting to take place on the 62nd day following the publication of the electoral programme.

There has been the provision of 41 days to the political parties for the publicity of polls under the election system that is to be taken place on the basis of region.

According to the programme, the registration of candidacy would take place on September 24, publication of candidates’ name list on 25, 26-28 for registering complaint in protest of candidates, decision over the complaint from September 30 to October 4, final publication of the name list of candidates on October 9 and distributing election symbol to candidates on October 10. The publicity for the polls would no longer take place from November 19 at 12 mid-night.

The political parties have to submit other name-list of candidates as per the proportional electoral system by September 26. The final name-list of candidates under proportional electoral system would be published on October 1.

Speaking at an all-party discussion over the proposed election programme today, representatives of political parties recommended the EC to shorten the electoral programme and take special initiatives to print ballot paper in Nepal.

Chief Election Commissioner Bhoj Raj Pokharel said the duration of electoral programme could slightly be changed by two or three days, but it could not be extended for more days.
