EC ready to hold civic polls despite boycott threats

While the election commission has made all preparations for conducting the municipal polls in Jaleshwor, the only municipality of the district, the agitating political parties are actively engaged in trying to scuttle them.
The District Election Office, Mohattari, informed that preparation for the election has concluded.
At a recent press meet, Jay Mukunda Khanal, CDO and election officer, said: “Preparation for the elections has concluded.” He also urged all to help for the upcoming municipal polls. According to the CDO, there are 13,130 voters in the municipality. “The District Election Office is broadcasting informative programmes for the voters through the local Cable Network,” informed the CDO. The chief of the district police and acting chief of district-based Royal Nepalese Army informed about the security plan of the municipality for the polls. According to SP Ramesh Phuyal, the security personnel will be active to provide security for the voters in the election.
Meanwhile, the agitating parties have also made public their programmes to boycott the polls. Activists of the parties will go from door to door urging the people not to take part in the polls. They have also planned to encircle the polling booths, it is said.
Meanwhile, Shankar Shrestha, chairman of Muskan Sena Party and the candidate for the upcoming municipal said he was threatened by the seven-party alliance against taking part in the elections, he said.
