KATHMANDU: A complaint has been lodged with the Election Commission demanding derecognition of the Rastriya Swatantra Party. Yuvraj Paudel of Sindhuli filed a petition before the Election Commission on Wednesday demanding derecognition of the party led by Rabi Lamichhane.
EC Spokesperson Shaligram Paudel told THT that they had received the complaint and were looking into its merits and demerits. The RSP was registered in the Election Commission on 1 July 2022. On January 27, the Supreme Court invalidated Lamichhane's election to the House of Representatives on the ground that the citizenship document that he submitted while registering the party and becoming a candidate for HoR election was illegal.
Yuvraj has alleged that by becoming deputy prime minister and home minister on the basis of an illegal citizenship document, Lamichhane had worked against national interest and as such the party that he chaired should also be derecognised. It was Yuvraj who had filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court acting on which the SC invalidated his election to the HoR.
