Eight cops face music

Pokhara, December 22

As many as eight Nepal Police personnel stationed at Area Police Office Sishuwa, Lekhnath Municipality, Kaski have been booked for shielding locals goons and dons.

They have been transferred as part of the action.

SI Kul Prasad Dhakal, four head constables and three constables were booked on the charge. District Police Office Kaski recommended their transfer after they were found consorting with local dons and failing to perform their duties.

Hooliganism and goon culture has gone up in the district with police shielding the criminals. Locals, fed up with the policemen’s behaviour had been complaining at the District Police Office for a long time.

The police personnel were transferred after grievances against them grew thick and fast, said a source at the district police office.

A police officer said the local goons were fearless with the police protection they received. “Now that the officers have been transferred, the local criminals have become like fish without water,” he said. According to sources, Dhakal used to misbehave with locals instead of reporting to his duty.

Stationed at Area Police Office Harmi, Gorkha, SI Dhakal was deputed at Sishuwa on periodic service. Police source said Dhakal was transferred back to Gorkha for his bad demeanour. “Normally police personnel are pulled to the district police office. But, SI Dhakal has been sent to Gorkha fearing that he might leak important information to the goons and dons,” a police officer said.

Besides SI Dhakal, head constable Mukti Bahadur Lungeli was transferred to Kapilvastu, another head constable Indra Bahadur Karki was transferred to Bhairahawa and Constable Durga Thapa has been sent to Kapilvastu where he was posted originally.

Head constables Rishiram Bhattarai and Santa Bahadur BK and constables Netra Bahadur BK and Dev Bahadur Khaptari have been sent to district police office.
