Police crack down on illegal online wagering during cricket tournament
KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 24
Police arrested eight Indian nationals on charges of illegal betting on Nepal Premier League matches through an online platform.
The arrested individuals, all from Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh, and currently residing in Samakhushi, Kathmandu Metropolitan City–26, have been identified as Raja Yadula, 31; Mahesh Babu, 35; Pandit Srinivasulu, 30; Sheikh Soyab, 20; Navin Maddela, 30; Mohammad Rafi Sheikh, 32; Sai Kumar Tammisetti, 19; and Sheikh Chand Basal, 28.
Police said the suspects were placing bets on match outcomes through the online betting site betacular.live during the second edition of the Nepal Premier League, which is being held from Mangsir 1 to 27 by the Cricket Association of Nepal.
A team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku, apprehended the suspects in Balkhu, Kathmandu Metropolitan City–14.
They have been sent to Kathmandu District Police Range for further investigation and action under illegal betting charge.
