Eight murder suspects, seven of them 16yo, made public in Damauli

DAMAULI: Police on Monday paraded eight persons, who were arrested in suspicion of their involvement in the January 16 murder of 16-year-old Dinesh Thapa at Malpot Line of Damauli. Seven of the suspects are minors.

All of them have confessed their crime, according to DSP Rakesh Singh, the spokesperson at the Tanahun District Police Office.

The suspects were produced before the Tanahun District Court and remanded in custody for further investigation.

One of them have been identified as 20-year-old Praveen Rai, who is a permanent resident of Solukhumbu district and currently residing in Byas Municipality-12 of Damauli, police said. Seven others are local boys aged 16.

Following a dispute on the night of January 16, the group had attacked Dinesh Thapa and Regan Thapa with sharp weapons at a local fete. Regan was wounded in the incident.

Earlier, police had 62 persons for interrogation. After an FIR was filed against two of them, police narrowed down their interrogation.

Subsequently, the eight of the suspects, who were arrested in possession of lethal weapons used in the fatal attack from various parts of Damauli Bazaar, police said in the press meet.

Critically injured Regan Thapa is undergoing treatment at Pokhara -based Manipal Teaching Hospital. He is said to be out of danger.
