An elderly of around 70 years old drowned near Devghat in Narayani River in Chitwan district on Monday.

Police said that a local resident Suraj Ghimire rescued the elderly from the river while the latter was being swept away by the swollen river.

Police head constable Sitaram Poudel said that the man died within 15 minutes while removing water from the lungs. Identity of the senior citizen is not yet confirmed.
