Elderly man dies in wild elephant attack

RAJBIRAJ: An elderly man died after a herd of wild elephants attacked him near the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Alauddin Khan (62) of Bairawa-8 of the district.

Khan was attacked while he was guarding crops on Thursday midnight.

He had died on the spot, informed locals.

Earlier, Sangita Yadav (12) of Kamalpur in the district had lost her life in the similar incident on July 13. Yadav was attacked by the tusker while she was grazing her buffaloes around the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve area.

Locals of the area have built a small hut to guard their crops in the area after wild animals destroyed their crops. However, it has terrified the locals as such incidents are on the rise.

It has also been learnt that they had protested and appealed to the Chief District Officer to solve the problem, but no any initiative has been taken yet.
