KATHMANDU, JULY 27

An elderly man was killed while a family of three was rescued after separate landslides triggered by incessant rainfall struck Myagdi district early Monday, Nepal Police said.

Seventy-year-old Lalbir Chhantyal died after a landslide buried his house while he was asleep at Chimkhet in Beni Municipality-3. Police recovered his body during a search and rescue operation. An investigation into the incident is underway.

In a separate incident at around 2:00 am, a landslide swept over a house belonging to Takdevi Thapa at Dharapani, Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-7.

Police, assisted by local residents, rescued all three occupants safely from the debris. One of them, Laxman Thapa, sustained minor injuries to his right leg, while the other two escaped unhurt.

Police said no livestock were lost in the incident and there was no immediate threat to nearby settlements.
