Election code breach rampant in Dolakha

Dolakha, November 22

Political parties contesting the upcoming parliamentary and provincial polls have been violating the election code of conduct in Dolakha district.

The parties have hung flags and put up other election publicity materials at various public places of the district headquarters, Charikot. The local administration has, however, remained a mute spectator to cases of poll code violation.

Locals said the administration had failed to act against the breach of poll code even after they complained about it. They also said the local administration had yet to remove flex banners and publicity materials containing election symbols and candidates’ photos from the sites. The locals doubt whether election in the district would be held in a fair manner considering the government employees’ apathy towards acts of poll code breach and some of them are even involved in election campaigns.

Assistant district attorney Kailash Dahal, also a member of the district election monitoring committee, was found to be posting election campaign content of the party he supported, on his Facebook wall. He, however, claimed that he was not involved in election publicity campaign of any party.

Meanwhile, Chief District Officer Laxman Bikram Thapa said his office would take action against those involved in violation of the election code of conduct.
