EC likely to submit parliamentary poll results to prez today

Kathmandu, February 13

The Election Commission is likely to submit the final result of the parliamentary election to President Bidhya Devi Bhandari tomorrow.

Parliamentary election was held on November 26 and December 7.

Results of 165 parliamentary first-past-the-post seats were declared immediately after the vote counting was over. The poll panel however, did not unveil the parliamentary proportional representation election result saying it would disclose only after final result of the National Assembly election came out.

The EC, which unveiled the parliamentary PR result on Thursday, directed parties to submit the corrected list of winning PR candidates by 5:00pm, tomorrow.

EC Spokesperson Navaraj Dhakal said the poll panel would submit the final result to the president after the political parties corrected the list of winning candidates. “We will not wait for the oath of office and secrecy of lawmakers,” said Dhakal, adding that the EC would submit the result to the president after it received the corrected list from parties.

The EC had earlier asked parties to furnish the corrected list by 5:00pm yesterday. Among the five parties, that crossed the three percent threshold, only the CPN-UML and Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal submitted correct lists.

The election body directed the Nepali Congress, the CPN-Maoist Centre and Rastriya Janta Party-Nepal, which had failed to recommend names of winners as per the clusters provisioned in the constitution.

Spokesperson Dhakal said the RJP-N today submitted its corrected list of winning candidates to the EC. RJP-N leader Manish Suman said his party omitted Renu Sharma’s name and included Nara Maya Dhakal’s name and submitted it to the EC.

An NC source said that the party would submit its list only tomorrow. “Mohan Pandey and Deepshikha Sharma’s names could be omitted from the Khas Arya list,” the source said on condition of anonymity, adding that   Ram Bahadur Bista and Rangamati Shahi’s name could be included in the list.

CPN-MC leader Mani Thapa said the poll panel had asked the party to include winners from backward region and differently-abled group in its list. He said the party would submit its corrected list tomorrow.
