Baglung, January 6
The investigation of the alleged irregularities during the construction of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded Baglung road, undertaken by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), has ended.
The ADB had halted the construction of Baglung-Burtiwang 105-km road and the Baglung-Kushmishera 21-km road based on the complaints regarding the irregularities at different stages of construction of the road sections.
The CIAA had raided the road project office and seized all the documents and began the investigation six months ago. Chief District Officer of Baglung district Prem Narayan Sharma on the capacity of CIAA district chief had initiated the investigation. Handing over the report to the CIAA, CDO Sharma said that discussion are under way whether a case should be filed against people involved in graft directly from CIAA or from local administration. The investigations found that the project contract was awarded to contractors without detailed evaluation of the costs and excess money was paid to those contractors.
