KATHMANDU, MAY 18

A Sherpa climber from Sankhuwasabha passed away after falling into a crevasse just below Camp II in the Everest region, this morning.

Pemba Tashi Sherpa fell while he was descending from Camp II to I, according to base camp officials.

Sherpa was part of the 'Climbing The Seven Summits' expedition handled by TAG Nepal Treks. His body was pulled out from the crevasse just between the two camps.

With this, this season's death toll on Mount Everest has reached three. Earlier on May 12, Abdul Waraich of Switzerland, and Puwei Liu of USA, perished during their descent.

Plans are afoot to airlift Sherpa's body as soon as possible.

Over 100 people climbed Everest on May 11 and 12 after the climbing route opened on May 7. More climbers are opting for the summit push on May 20.
