KATHMANDU, APRIL 15

The Department of Tourism honored courageous climber Kami Sherpa with an Everest summiteer badge and a special ID card during a ceremony in Kathmandu.

Leeladhar Awasthi, Director of the Department of Tourism under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, presented the Sagarmatha special badge and Everest summiteer card to Kami Sherpa in recognition of his contributions to promoting Nepal's adventure tourism globally.

Kami has summited Everest six times and previously worked as a video journalist for Nepal Television, covering various activities on the world's highest peak. Earlier, he was honored with the Hem Sunil Risky Television Journalism Award, which included a cash prize of one lakh rupees.

The event was attended by Diwas Pokharel, Vice-President of the Everest Summiteers Association (ESA); ESA General Secretary Shiva Bahadur Sapkota; senior journalist Raju Silwal; and Bal Krishna Pandit, Manager of Air Dynasty Helicopters, among others.

The decision to award special government badges to Everest summiteers was made following initiatives by the Everest Summiteers' Association. Kami, who currently resides in California, remains actively involved in promoting Nepal, Sherpa culture, and social services.
