KATHMANDU, APRIL 7
With the objective of exploring how Nepal can transition from sustainable to regenerative tourism practices-ensuring a deeper, more positive impact on people and the planet-BTTM students of NATHM are set to host an expert dialogue on 'Transition from Sustainable to Regenerative Tourism' on April 10.
In a statement today, the organizers stated that the expert dialogue will examine the limitations of sustainable tourism and explore how regenerative approaches can deliver more meaningful and lasting benefits.
Raj Gyawali, founder of Social Tour, will deliver the keynote address, while Tourism Innovator Rakshit Bikram Khadka, Kora Tours CEO Bijay Amatya, and Yubika Bhandari, General Secretary of NATTA, will join the panel discussion, as stated in the statement.
In recent years, the discourse around regenerative tourism has gained momentum, advocating a model that goes beyond sustainability by actively restoring, healing, and revitalizing destinations, ecosystems, and communities. This paradigm shift holds particular significance for Nepal-a nation endowed with breathtaking natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and diverse ecological landscapes.
While sustainable tourism primarily aims to minimize harm, regenerative tourism aspires to enhance the well-being of a place-leaving it better than it was found. It emphasizes ecological restoration, community empowerment, and the preservation of cultural identities, according to the statement.
The event is scheduled to take place on Thursday at the Multipurpose Hall within the premises of the Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hospitality Management (NATHM) in Ravibhawan, Kathmandu.
