Explosions mar by-polls in places

Pokhara, November 30

Improvised explosive devices went off at several places near voting centres at Kaski constituency-2, today.

Locals said a bomb exploded near the voting centre at Saraswoti Tika Secondary School at 7:45 am. Similarly, an IED was detonated near Nawa Prabhat Secondary School Pokhara at 7:30am. Another explosive device went off near Shanti Secondary School at Chhaharepani of Pokhara-16, at 8:00am. A bomb was also detonated near the voting centre at Pokhara-16 at 1:30pm while voting was underway.

No human casualties, have been reported. Explosives had gone off at the voting centres despite tight security. Police have yet to comment on the explosions.

Voting had started at Kaski Constituency-2 from 7:00am. People were queuing up from early morning to cast their ballots. According to Kaski CDO Ramesh Kumar KC, votes were cast at 32 voting booths and 82 voting centres at 11 wards in Kaski constituency-2.

By-election for the seat of the House of Representatives was held after then minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari was killed in a chopper accident. As many as 21 candidates including 10 independents, are vying for the seat.

Likewise, an improvised explosive device went off near a voting centre in Lamjung. The bomb had exploded while voting was under way for the post of chair of Ward-2, at Sundarbazaar Municipality. Loud sound of the blast had dispersed the voters for a while.

Similarly, improvised explosive devices were found at two places in Adarsha Rural Municipality, Doti today. A bomb disposal team of Nepali Army had deactivated the IEDs at the rural municipality.

However, by-election for the post of ward chair at Adarsha Rural Municiplaity-2 was held successfully.
