Extortion threat compels family to mull relocation
Biratnagar, March 11:
An unidentified gang has demanded a donation of Rs 5 lakh from Lekhnath Poudel, an employee of Kathmandu-based office of Agriculture Inputs Corporation Limited.
“Three persons came to my house at Srijana Chowk in Biratnagar-6 two days ago and threatened me of life, if I failed to provide them Rs 5 lakh within 15 days,” Poudel said. Poudel, who recently returned home from Kathmandu, said he had been frequently threatened by the gang over phone. “The gang that came to my house might be the one which had been calling me through a cell phone registered in India,” he added.
The gang’s threat has triggered panic in Poudel’s family, including elderly father Krishna Prasad (76) and mother Dhan Maya.”I am not financially capable to pay such a big amount. My family has no option but to leave our village,” Poudel said.Following the threat, Poudel filed a complaint at Morang District Police Office yesterday, demanding security.
