Factionalism blamed for NC’s loss in Ramechhap

Ramechhap, June 17

Nepali Congress Ramechhap has cited ineffective internal management as the main reason behind its poor performance in the election. A two-day review meeting of the party held in Manthali since yesterday reached this conclusion.

At the meeting, mainly attended by the candidates of local level polls, leaders listed out poor election campaigning, factionalism, delayed selection of poll candidates, among others, as the main factors that led to the party’s dismal show in the polls.

NC ward chair candidate from Ramechhap Municipality-1, Nawaraj Dhakal said his own party leaders’ betrayal was the main cause behind his defeat in the polls. NC Khandadevi Rural Municipality-3 ward chair candidate Netra KC too blamed factionalism in the party as the main reason behind the party’s defeat in the polls. “Candidates from rival parties spent lavishly and bought votes,” he claimed.

Numbu Sherpa, the newly elected ward chair from Umakunda Rural Municipality-1 from NC, described his victory as hard-earned. He also pointed out  factionalism in the party as the major reason behind the party’s poor performance in the elections. “Our leaders and cadres didn’t vote or let others vote for us,” he said. Of the total eight local levels, the NC couldn’t win any top posts in Ramechhap Municipality, while it won the vice-chairperson’s post in Umakunda Rural Municipality.
