KATHMANDU, JANUARY 07

The Ujwal Thapa Foundation (UTF), established in memory of late Ujwal Thapa -- former chair of Bibeksheel Party -- was launched amidst a small event in Kathmandu today.

It has been learnt that the foundation has been established by his family members, friends and well-wishers as a non-partisan, non-profit initiative to keep Thapa's legacy alive.

The vision for UTF has been stated as creating empowered, empathetic and entrepreneurial societies while its mission is to motivate and enhance human capacity for policy making, leadership development, and movement strengthening to attain collaborative, sustainable, and rapid social transformation in Nepal.

More details about the proposed programs of the foundation, leadership and advisory teams can be found on its website, www.ujwalthapafoundation.org.

The website was launched by Uday Bahadur Thapa and Shanta Thapa, Ujwal's parents, at the program. The executive committee has been formed under the leadership of Erica Adhikary, Ujwal's wife.

Similary, in case of any query the foundation can be contacted via ujwalthapafoundation@gmail.com.

Founder of Bibeksheel campaign and former co-coordinator of Bibeksheel Sajha Party Ujwal Thapa, 44, succumbed to COVID-19 infection on June 1, 2021 in course of treatment in Mediciti Hospital in Lalitpur.

Ujwal Thapa was known to be among the first people to sow the seeds of alternative politics in Nepal. Known for his unique campaigning styles, Thapa can be largely credited for the new wave of non-violent, peaceful and creative protesting 'styles' that can be seen across urban centres of the country of late.
