Charikot, March 13:

An increasing number of Thami women of Dolakha are turning up at the district hospital for family planning, thanks to the ongoing awareness programmes.

Previously, they used to believe that larger families would make them wealthier and that family planning measures would make them weaker.

But awareness programmes have changed the mindset of these women. The women, who would hesitate to take any pills, are turning up at the district hospital for contraception.

Shyam Khadka, a health worker at the Khopachangu health post, says that men have also become aware of the advantages of family planning.

At least 36 females and 39 males have used methods of contraception from a camp at Singati bazaar, informed Dr Aanandaraj Khanal, medical officer at the district hospital.
