The family of Rabindra Meheta, who died while undergoing treatment after being shot by police during the Kaptaanganj incident in Sunsari, has refused to receive his body until the government agrees to its demands.
Family members said they want the Home Minister to visit them and address their demands before they will take custody of Meheta's body from Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), where he died on Tuesday morning. Relatives have gathered outside the hospital's intensive care unit (ICU) and say they will not leave until an agreement is reached.
Meheta, 22, was injured in the police firing at Kaptaanganj in Dewanganj Rural Municipality-3 of Sunsari and later succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment in Kathmandu.
The family has demanded the same terms that the government earlier agreed to with the families of three other people killed in the incident, including declaring the deceased martyrs, providing financial assistance and offering employment to a family member. They say Meheta's funeral will be held only after a similar agreement is reached.
