Farmers not buying livestock, crops insurance
Bajura, March 7
The insurance policies for livestock and crops, launched across the country about five years ago, have failed.
Though the government had introduced these policies with a view to cover the loss incurred from damage to crops and death of livestock, not a single person bought the crops policy in these two zones.
“There is not a single person who has bought crops insurance policy in the district,” said District
Agriculture Development Office Mugu Acting Chief Dharma Bahadur Shahi, adding that farmers of Humla, Bajura, Kalikot and Bajhang districts hadn’t bought the policy either.
District Agriculture Development Office, Bajhang, had even dispatched four agents to villages after providing them necessary training. But sadly, the agents haven’t found even a single farmer who is ready to buy the policy.
“As the crops insurance policy is based on primary value, not production value, the farmers are not interested,” Bajhang DADO chief Raj Kumar KC said.
Every year, farmers bear huge loss due to natural disasters such as drought, hailstorm and the likes in these districts.
