Fatally thrashed soldier’s final rites performed

Final rites of a soldier, who died in the course of treatment after he was thrashed in Siraha a few days ago, were conducted here today.

On May 11, locals of Tenuwapatti village in Bariyarpatti Rural Municipality had beaten constable Anis Kumar Singh, 25, of Sohapur village by tying him to a utility pole. Seriously injured from the beating, he died in Kathmandu on Wednesday, in the course of treatment.

Nepali Army carried out the final rites of the soldier following an agreement among the deceased’s parents and Bariyarpatti Rural Municipality Ward Chair Nabin Kumar Yadav, in the presence of Chief District Officer Rudra Prasad Pandit.

A six-point demand, including granting martyr’s status for the deceased, compensation to his family, and action against those involved in the thrashing has been sent to the home ministry through the CDO.

According Chief at Siraha District Police Office SP Jeevan Shrestha, they are investigating the incident.

“As we’ve started investigation, the guilty will be booked soon,” he said.
