Nepali disapora protests against border blockade
Kathmandu, November 21
Nepali diaspora has started protesting against India’s unofficial blockade as it has created a lasting humanitarian crisis in absence essential goods, including medicines and fuel, in the country.
The protest was organised by Non-Resident Nepali Association, Denmark in order to draw the attention of the world community on the impending crisis in Nepal due to India’s blockade and disruption of supplies, according to a statement issued by NRNA-Denmark.
Various Nepali organisations and hundreds of Nepali expats living in Denmark took part in the protest, it added.Nepalis living in United Kingdom, United States, Germany and Australia had earlier staged protest rallies in London, New York, Berlin and Sydney, while now Nepali diaspora in Denmark took a step further and organised a protest in front of the Embassy of India in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Non-Resident Nepali Association has been leading such protests across the continent.Separately, Nepalis living in Moscow, Russia and London had submitted a memorandum to Indian embassies based in these cities, calling for an immediate end to embargo.
NRN-USA earlier this week had also submitted a memorandum to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, drawing his attention to Nepal’s problems in absence of fuel, medicine and other essentials due to the border blockade.
“Nepalese diaspora around the globe are deeply concerned about the current humanitarian crisis in Nepal resulting from the continued blockade of essential commodities and supplies,” read the memorandum.
