Federal govt doesn’t possess all rights: PM

Hetauda, June 4

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today said the federal government did not possess all the rights.

Addressing the Provincial Assembly of Province 3 in Hetauda, Oli held that rights were distributed to all three levels of the government. “Our major concern is to develop the country. We shall delegate power to places where development can take place,” Oli stated.

Oli urged ministers and lawmakers to maintain honesty and discipline and commit themselves to development work. He requested people’s representatives to keep clean and fair-minded people under them for the sake of good governance.

Stating that new structures had to be developed as per the new system, Oli stated that they had the onus of carrying this on their shoulders and to develop the country through new practice and system.

Oli said it was time to focus on development instead of asking for rights. “The country has 761 governments comprising 753 local levels, seven provincial governments and one central government. Now, a great deal of development will take place as a result of many governments,” Oli added.

Oli advised people’s representatives to talk politely with people and be responsible towards their job. “People have elected us. They have placed their faith in us. So, we have to be afraid of them,” Oli said.

Oli pledged to commit to people’s service. “I work 20 hours a day for the country’s development,” Oli said.

He urged lawmakers not to dispute over the province’s name and headquarters and suggested that they work in cooperation and collaboration. He asked them to dispel the illusion that only having the provincial headquarters could usher in development at certain places.

Oli met Province 3 chief minister and ministers. He also addressed the Cabinet meeting of the province.

Speaking at a programme organised by Nepal Communist Party, Makawanpur chapter, in Hetauda, Oli said the party would not have any factions or groups. “We will not allow groupism and factionalism to emerge in the unified party,” Oli said.

Oli warned he would not spare violent and criminal activities in the country. He said they were working to conclude party unification at the lower levels.

Oli said Raxaul-Kathmandu rail service would come into operation in five years.

“DPR of the railway will be completed in a year and rail service will come into operation in five years,” Oli said.
