FSF-N seeks deal on statute amendment
Kathmandu, March 2
General Secretary of Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal Ram Sahay Yadav said his party would join the KP Sharma Oli-led government only when his party would reach a deal with the CPN-UML and the CPN-Maoist Centre on issues of constitution amendment.
Speaking at Reporters Club in Kathmandu today, Yadav said talks with the left alliance leaders were heading in a positive direction. He said the left alliance leaders should also agree to amend Article 274 of the constitution.
“This article talks of seeking consent of majority of the province to revise provincial boundary which is against the principle of federalism,” he said. He said the constitution did not address the demands raised by movements of Madhesis, Tharus, indigenous nationalities and other marginalised groups and efforts should be made to fulfil their demands.
Yadav said government’s policy and programmes should include programmes to address issues. Once the left alliance agrees to amend the constitution, the two sides can discuss which articles should be amended.
He said his party would finalise issues related to constitution amendment before discussing party’s participation in the government.
