Federal units will be revised, Constitution amended: DPM Gachhadar

KATHMANDU: Newly-appointed Deputy Prime Minister Bijay Kumar Gachhadar has said that delineation, structures and numbers of the provinces would be revised to address the ongoing agitation in Tarai region.

According to him, the Constitution would be amended for the same.

Talking to media, after taking the oath of office and secrecy at the President Office, Sheetal Niwas today, DPM Gachhadar added that the right demands of Madhesi, Tharu and indigenous nationalities would be addressed and the numbers and border of the federal units would be revised.

He also recalled that the eight-point agreement was signed among the CPN-UML, UCPN-Maoist and his party Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Democratic to amend the Constitution prior to the prime ministerial election.

According to him, the Constitution would be amended with the spirit of the 16-point deal reached among major political parties.

DPM Gachhadar also expressed his confidence that the Nepali Congress would also agree in the Constitution amendment process.
