Advocate Bhimarjun Acharya today said right to self-determination is applicable only in a colonial state and the concept is not relevant in the case of Tarai.

He was of the view that federal state mechanism is a game to split the country.

He said this while presenting a paper on Constituent Assembly polls and its challenges, organised by the Lions’ Club of Narayangarh Diyalo here today. He said the nation should be neutral over the issue of religion and the demand of forming states on the basis of ethnicity is a popularity stunt aimed at dividing the nation.

“If the nation is secular in terms of religion, it should also not be divided in the name of ethnicity,” he said, adding that people of Tarai have already got their rightful representation in the CA.
