SOLUKHUMBU: Property worth Rs 2.5 million was destroyed in a fire that broke out in a house at Kangel VDC-7 in Solukhumbu district on Sunday evening.

According to police, local Kul Kumar Basnet's house was reduced to cinders in the inferno.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Chandra Dev Rai said that jewelleries worth Rs 1.35 million, foodstuff and Rs 150,000 in cash were also gutted in the fire.

Police personnel from the Kangel Airport and local residents brought the fire under control at around 7:00 pm.

It is said that the fire broke out from the kitchen of the house.

Basnet is a teacher at Jiban Jyoti Higher Secondary in Kangel.
