Fire victims taken ill; relief paltry

NEPALGUNJ: Fire victims of Khudhawa in Narainapur Village Development Committee-1 have been taken ill with complaints of diarrhoea, headache and other diseases.

According to local Rambalak Pasi, 15 victims have taken ill. He said that most of the victims have suffered eye infection. Dharmadas Yadav, Kanta Yadav, Ram Kumar Yadav, Ramudeep Yadav, Munnadevi Pasi including other have fallen sick. Mostly the women and children have been affected.

Pasi lamented a medical team from local sub-health post has failed to take the diseases under control. He added, “The government should send a medical team from Nepalgunj otherwise the disease may turn an epidemic.''

Meanwhile, Banke District Public Health Office, Dhirgunj Shah said that various diseases have been spreading in the area. He added that teams from local Narainapur sub-health post and Kalphant sub-health post have been sent to the area.

According to Chandra Shekhar Oli, Assistant Sub-Inspector, Narainapur Area Police Office, the fire rendered 427 locals homeless. He added, “They have been living miserable life as all the food stuffs and property was destroyed in the fire.” Save The Children and Nepal Red Cross Society have distributed utensils, tents, bitten rice, sugar and biscuits to the victims. They have been relying on those meagre relief materials for four days now.
