Firecrackers driving people of Tanahun nuts

With Tihar around the corner, people’s fear of firecrackers is increasing in different places of the district. The ear-splitting sound of firecrackers of different kinds has had a negative effect on the consumer environment in major markets like Dumre, Abukhaireni, Dulegauda, Khairenitar, Turture, Sisghat and Bandipur, said locals.

Like artillery fire, the boom-boom and bang-bang of firecrackers is heard from dawn till late in the night in Damauli, grumbled locals. It is mostly groups of children who are the cracking the firecrackers, said locals. The sound of firecrackers is having a negative effect on the environment and the people. Chairperson of the bazaar unit of the Chambers of Commerce and Industries’ Association (Damauli), Ishwor Bista, said: “Accidents might occur if the sale and distribution of firecrackers is not restricted.”

“I am not getting even forty winks at night due to the loud blasts of firecrackers,” said Shivahari Jeevanmitra of Byas municipality- 2. Tanahun Chief District Officer Kanshi Nath Marasini said a decision was made yesterday to restrict the sale and use of firecrackers.

The CDO said notices will be given in newspapers and public announcements will be made about the restriction on sale and use of firecrackers. Action will be taken if anyone flouts the rules, he said. DSP at the Tanahun District Police Office Khinu Prasad Acharya said the police are doing their best to crack down on those disturbing public peace.
