DHANGADI, OCTOBER 11

For the first time in Sudurpaschim Province, a girl's convention has been organised with the view to making the government responsible for the girls' agenda.

Over 90 girls from 9 districts of the province participated in the convention.

The majority of the participants recognised female foeticide as the main challenge in the region. "Let alone the discrimination faced by girls after their birth, girls are not even allowed to be born as a female foetus is identified and aborted well before it's born," said Sudurpaschim Girls' Network representative Shusila Bhatta.

Further, Bhatta pointed out the need to pressure the government to introduce additional policy to stop the scourge of female foeticide. "Failing to stop it will get the problem all the more serious," she observed.

Sudurpaschim Province government's Social Development Minister Jhapat Bahadur Saud said that the conference was organised by the government mainly with the aim of bringing girls'-friendly policy to protect girls.
