The First National Bamboo Conference is underway in Diktel Bazaar from Thursday. The conference is taking place from February 27-March 1.
The bamboo conference was formally inaugurated at Diktel-based Khotang Multi-Purpose Covered Hall and various products made from bamboo have been kept in the exhibition taking place at nearby Matikore playground.
Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi municipality is the main organizer of the event.
The welcome gate and the stage constructed at the exhibition venue are also made from bamboo. There are 51 stalls of different products made from bamboo, local agriculture products, among others.
Mayor Tirtha Raj Bhattarai said arrangement of Nepali traditional lingle ping and rote ping has been made for entertainment. There is participation of more than 300 guests out from Khotang district in the conference. Mayor Bhattarai shared that bamboo experts would present 23 different working papers in the conference taking place under the slogan 'Where there is bamboo, there is life, where there is life, there is bamboo'.
Forest Research and Training Centre, Babarmahal, Ministry of Forest and Environment, Koshi Province, and Green Bamboo Creation, Lalitpur are also the organisers of the conference.
The main objective of the conference is for generating income from bamboo promoting it, according to organiser. The organisers have expected that thousands of visitors would visit the conference, mentioned Deputy-Mayor Bishan Rai.
Similarly, a decision was made to gift bamboo chair to high-ranking people with an objective of implementing utilizing bamboo products in practice and warning government to implement and make implement the policy of using local products in practice. Thirteen different varieties of bamboo are found in the municipality.
