First seed centre set up

Dadeldhura, November 29

A seed production centre was established at Maurada of Dadeldhura headquarters in Baghkhor targeting seven hilly districts of the far-west.

The centre was set up in Dadeldhura to reduce farmers’ dependence upon Tarai for seeds. Chairman of Shikhar Dhura Seed Production Centre Karna Bahadur Saud said seeds of paddy, maize, wheat, and other vegetables produced and processed there would be supplied to farmers of seven districts including Dadeldhura, Baitadi, Bajhang, Doti, Achham, and Darchula.

Considering the potential of the market, Saud said that they had set up the food and vegetable seed production centre at a cost of Rs 29 million. He said that the concerned government agencies had provided a grant amount of Rs 7.6 million for the seed centre.

Chief at the District Agriculture Development Office Dadeldhura Dil Bahadur Bista said that the seed centre would be able to supply seeds to all districts of the far-west within a few years.

Bista claimed that the organic seed produced in the district would have better market than the inorganic seed imported from Tarai and India.
