Five Indian cops arrested for Aauji abduction bid

Dhangadi, June 1

Nepal Police held eight persons including five Indian policemen, who were in the process of abducting Nepali national Lal Bahadur Aauji from Ladgada, Dipayal Silgadi Municipality, Doti today morning.

Nepal Police personnel at District Police Office Doti arrested them from Silgadi while Indian policemen in plain clothes were transporting Aauji to Indian territory after arresting him from his home while he was sleeping.

According to locals, Prasad Karki and three Indians abducted Aauji at 2:00am. The abductors tied his legs and arms and taped his mouth and forced him into a vehicle. Following the incident, the locals informed Area Police Office Ladgada. But the area police office missed the captors and informed district police office.

According to SP Dilli Raj Bista, District Police Office Doti Chief, they held the five Indians, including a DSP, and three Nepali nationals. All the arrestees have been kept at the district police office for investigation.

From preliminary findings it is learnt that Lal Bahadur and the three Nepalis were involved in Bank of Maharastra robbery in Karnataka, India.

The far-western regional Police Chief DIG Romendra Singh Deuja said, “It is not usual that Indian security personnel enter Nepal to arrest Nepali nationals. Nepal Police could have helped arrest the guilty, had they sought assistance,” said DIG Deuja.

“The incident is problematic. It has exposed lack of efficiency of the Nepalese police,’ said law practitioner Naba Raj Bhatta. Lal Bahadur, who stayed in Karnataka for many years for employment, had returned home eight months ago.
