Five killed, 32 hurt in road mishaps

Palpa, May 2 :

Five persons were killed and 32 injured in separate road accidents in different places last night, police said.

Three persons were killed and two injured when a jeep (Lu1 Ja 919) heading for Kerunga of Arghakhanchi from Tansen of Palpa skidded off the road and fell 100 metres below at Maulipokhari of Kerunga last night. The jeep was carrying patients from Tansen Mission Hospital, DPO in Arghakhanchi said. Sumitra GC, 33, Goma Pandey, 46 and Champa GC, 30, of Kerunga-4 were among those killed in the incident.

The injured —Jagat Baral of Palpa and Khum Bahadur GC of Arghakhanchi — are being treated at Sandhikharka hospital, police said.

Similarly, one person was killed and another injured in a road accident that took place in Gaindakot VDC of Nawalparasi on the Mahendra Highway last night. Motorcyclist Prabhat Mahato, 50, died on the spot while pillion rider Nanda Lal Lama, 50, was injured in the accident, the Nawalparasi DPO said.

Likewise in Bara, one person was killed and two injured when a motorcycle (Na 2 Pa 8259) rammed into Dudhaura Bridge at Char Kilo on Pathlaiya-Nijgadh road section along the Mahendra Highway last night. Motorcyclist Madhu Chaulagain, 25, of Bara was killed while pillion riders — Ram Krishna Lama and Uttam Chettri of Makwanpur — were injured critically in the accident, the inspector at Simara Area Police Office, Gautam Raj Kattel, said. Lama was sent to Kathmandu for treatment while Chettri is being treated at Narayani Sub Regional Hospital in Birgunj.

In Dhading, 27 persons were injured, eight of them critically, when a passenger bus (Ba 2 Kha 641) bound for Kathmandu from Narayangarh rammed into a tipper (Na 3 Kha 2270) parked on the roadside at Mahadev Bensi of Dhading last night. Twenty-five passengers of the bus and two persons sleeping on the roof of the tipper were injured in the accident that occurred at around 11:15 pm. All the injured were rescued sent to Kathmandu for treatment, police said.
