KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 7

Five persons died while five others sustained injuries after the jeep they were travelling on skidded off the road in Patan Municipality-1 of Batadi on Monday evening.

The deceased have been identified as Binod Bhattarai (13), Rama Bhattarai (72), Manisha BK (20), Prem Chunara (24) and Janaki Bhattarai (40) all of Patan Municipality-1 of the district.

According to police, the incident occurred when the jeep (Se 1 Ja 888), en route to Kailpaal from Patan Bazaar, lost control and fell some 100 metres below at Sakar Thali, killing four on the spot and injuring six others.

Critically injured Janaki Bhattarai succumbed to her injuries during the course of treatment at Patan Primary Health Centre. She was being readied to be sent to Dadeldhura based health facility for further treatment along with the other two critically injured -- Om Prakash Bhattarai and Mandhwoj Bhattarai, also from Patan-1.

Meanwhile, three other injured persons - Dipak Bhattarai, Bishnu Bhattarai, and Govind BK all from Patan-1 - are receiving treatment at the same primary health centre.

According to reports, there were 11 people in the vehicle at the time of the accident, including the driver.
