LAMJUNG, DECEMBER 9

Three persons have died while eight others sustained injuries after the jeep they were travelling on fell below the road in Bhusme of Marshyangdhi Rural Municipality-8 of Lamjung district on Thursday morning.

According to police, the incident occurred when the jeep (Ga 1 Ja 6317), ferrying teachers and students of Ganesh Secondary School at Simpani in Marshyangdhi-9 in an educational tour to Peace Hill, lost control and skidded off the road and fell some 50 metres below at Kalimati, killing three on the spot while injuring eight others, Police Inspector Jagadish Regmi, at District Police Office, Lamjung.

According to Regmi, the deceased have been identified as school teacher Kamal Rana Thapa (38) of Badniya Rural Municipality-8 in Kapilvastu, and students Pramisa Gurung (13) and Ganesh Bhandari (12).

The injured were rescued by police with the aid of locals and brought to Lamjung District Hospital.

The jeep driver and another 14-year-old student have been referred to a health facility in Bharatpur for additional treatment, according to Regmi. The remaining eight are being treated at the local hospital. The injured were wounded in the head, face, arms, and legs.

The identities of the injured have yet to be determined, according to police.

In three jeeps, the school had taken teachers and students on an instructive excursion.
